Fabric-based laminate (HGW)

Fabric-based laminate is a fiber-plastic composite in which several layers of phenolic resin are bonded to linen or cotton fabric. This material is related to laminated paper, but is much stronger.

  • Low water absorption
  • High electrical and dielectric properties
  • Very high strength and hardness
  • High dimensional stability
  • High abrasion resistance
  • High wear resistance
  • Good machinability

Properties

Fabric-based laminate is a very hard, abrasion-resistant plastic that can also withstand extremely high thermal loads. As a versatile engineering plastic, fabric-based laminate is furthermore not only electrically insulating, it also damps sound and high vibrations.

Processing

Fabric-based laminate has high dimensional stability, particularly with tight tolerances. Fabric-based laminate can be processed in numerous ways, e.g. turning, milling, sawing, drilling, punching.

Areas of application

  • Electrical and electronics industry
  • Semiconductor industry
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Vehicle industry
  • Textiles industry
