Compared to other thermoplastics, polyamide has a high moisture absorption of up to 3 % in a normal atmosphere. This increases the impact strength. Even better values can be obtained through conditioning (heating in a water bath) for a specific duration and at a specific temperature. However, conditioning can also occur automatically after lengthy storage in air.
Polyamide has high strength, rigidity, abrasion resistance, impact strength and notched impact strength. Polyamide also has high heat distortion resistance, good slip and emergency running properties. Polyamides are resistant e.g. to hydrocarbons (aliphatic and aromatic), diluted alkalis, alcohols, oils or greases.
