PC

Polycarbonate (PC) is a thermoplastic/technical plastic. It is characterized by high transparency and high heat distortion resistance. PC is also impact-resistant and highly suitable for use where other plastics are too soft or have insufficient dimensional stability –for example machine guards, vehicle glazing, covers, hoods, etc.

Properties

Polycarbonate has high strength, impact strength and stiffness and is characterized by high dimensional stability. Even at minus temperatures, polycarbonate offers excellent impact strength. PC has low water absorption, is heat distortion resistant and has good thermoforming properties. PC is usually used in areas where impact resistance is needed due to the risk of splintering. Since PC can be effectively protected against UV through coatings, it is also popular in outdoor applications. The light permeability of PC is 88 %. Transparent PC can also be supplied with abrasion resistance on both sides.

Processing

PC can be processed very effectively in its solid state. Many processing and machining operations can be carried out, for example drilling, milling, grinding or sawing.
