PEEK (MG)

PEEK is a semi-crystalline, thermoplastic high-performance material with a very high melt temperature of over 330 °C. PEEK has very high temperature resistance (up to +260° C long-term) and very good chemical resistance. PEEK is thus resistant to practically all organic and inorganic chemicals. PEEK is one of the most popular and frequently used high-performance plastics and is used in particular for parts subject to high loads.

Properties

Polyether ether ketone has a very high continuous operating temperature (up to +260° C) and very high strength, very high stiffness and high toughness. Furthermore, PEEK has excellent abrasion resistance and slip properties and a low coefficient of linear expansion. PEEK also offers good machining properties. The plastic is flame-retardant and self-extinguishing and develops very little smoke in the event of fire.

Because of its good resistance to gamma and x-ray radiation, PEEK can be provided in types with certifications for use in special applications e.g. in medical technology, and can also be modified with graphite, carbon fibers and PTFE for improved slip properties. PEEK is also available with glass fibers for better stiffness and dimensional stability. PEEK is suitable for contact with food and is UV- and weather-resistant.

Processing

PEEK can be machined with conventional machines and tools. PEEK can be processed in numerous ways, e.g. turning, milling, sawing, planing, drilling or waterjet cutting. The material is used among other things in parts that must withstand high temperatures or high mechanical loads.
