POM C

Polyoxymethylene (POM) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic characterized by high strength and stiffness. POM is produced by means of chain copolymerization. We differentiate between homopolymers (POM H) and copolymer polyoxymethylene (POM C). Low water absorption.

  • Good UV resistance
  • High dimensional stability
  • Low moisture absorption
  • Excellent slip properties
  • High abrasion resistance
  • Ideal combination of strength, stiffness and toughness
  • Suitable for contact with food (FDA)
  • Low tendency to creep
  • Good machinability
  • Good electric and dielectric properties

Properties

POM C has low moisture absorption and high gas density. This enables tight tolerances to be adhered to in the machining of complex parts. POM C has high hardness, stiffness and toughness and high heat distortion resistance.

Furthermore, polyoxymethylene has high dimensional stability, good electrical insulation properties, good slip and wear properties and is resistant to stress crack formation. POM C also has good resistance to many chemicals. POM thermoplastics are thus resistant to undiluted acids and alkalis, aliphatic, aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons, oils and alcohols.

The material can be used at long term temperatures of -40 °C to approx. 100 °C, with short-term temperatures of 120 °C being possible. Polyoxymethylene also offers very good machining properties. POM C is approved for foods.

Processing

The crystalline melting point of POM C is 164 °C to 172 °C, and the glass transition temperature is around -60 °C. Polyoxymethylene has high dimensional stability, particularly in the case of tight tolerances.
POM C has very good machining properties and can also be processed in other ways. POM C can be processed in numerous ways, e.g. turning, milling, sawing, drilling, punching, welding, thermoforming, cold bending, deep drawing, electroplating.
